Nashville Zoo Nashville Zoo News

Visited this zoo for the first time this past week (Wednesday) and a couple of notes from the visit:
The Tiger exhibit remains closed as repairs are still ongoing to the bridge. A little disappointing since this was the only thing we didn’t see.

A number of the new Africa habitats are under construction at the moment, namely the ones around the new leopard exhibits. Here is a photo of an incoming primate exhibit.

The Komodo Dragon exhibit has the pit dug out and some mock rock walls in place, but need the final detailing and painting to finish yet. Can certainly see this is going to be awesome.

Did see the new Eland and Bontebok calf out walking around with the herd, so that was neat. Zebras were separated out of this exhibit at the time.

I might have to write up a yearly trip report thread to delve into my thoughts about this fantastic zoo. I’ve been to around 5 new zoos this year already and have at least one more zoo trip on the books this year.
According to the webstie(Future Plans), the first part of this complex is projected to open in 2023.

Construction begins next week on a new parking garage that will expand parking by 62%. The work site will take up half of the current lot. Until the garage is completed (likely early 2024), timed entry tickets will be needed to be admitted into the Zoo.

Nashville Zoo to implement new ticket policy as construction for massive parking garage begins

It's crazy to me that Nashville's parking lot isn't big enough as it is - the zoo is not that large, and I recall that it felt pretty busy/crowded on a day when the parking lot wasn't even half-full!

The zoo also posted some updates on other future projects. Leopard Forest has been delayed until 2024 and all mention of the kopje exhibit has been removed. I'm not sure what's going on here as rock hyrax and klipspringer were a big part of the addition up until this point. On a more positive note, the Komodo dragon exhibit will still open in 2023 and will hold red-crowned cranes in the winter

Future Plans

Huh. I personally like both species but it’s not an overwhelming loss. Maybe it got pushed back to a future expansion? Always fit a little awkwardly in the forest area. And the two species aren’t really big draws in and of themselves. Maybe the math didn’t work out on giving them a themed area of their own.

I received an update on this. The kopje exhibit is still on the plan, but was delayed to a future phase. I imagine it will probably be the first thing that is completed after the leopard and monkey exhibits are done.
