The upcoming Andean Bear exhibit (2016) will feature a Peruvian Lodge themed plaza:

If anyone is interested, the two Andean bears the zoo is getting is Luka (M) from Phoenix Zoo and Nicole (F) from the Smithsonian National Zoo.

The zoo is working with the US army to help train army veterinarians with a wide range of species.

When I first read this announcement what I read was "zoo helping army VETERANS." I thought why do veterans need training with a variety of species? Then I re-read it and saw it said army VETERINARIANS which of course makes much more sense.
According to the Facebook page for the Rare Species Conservation Centre in the UK, Nashville Zoo is partnered with them in a captive breeding program for Banded Palm Civets and Nashville currently has 1.1 animals.

Funny you should mention this now. Just three days ago I was at RSCC and had a nice chat with the owner and he told me about their work with Nashville. (I also got to see a ten day old banded palm civet). RSCC has also received some clouded leopards from Nashville.

Just saw this and was really surprised. I hope they don't make too many changes to the main exhibit yard. It is definitely already the most beautiful elephant exhibit in the country! However, I understand the need for an updated modern barn. What are your thoughts? Have heard about any details regarding the design of the new barn/exhibit?

No details. And it will give the zoo a chance to renovate the exhibit landscape.
