National Mammal?

Antilocapridae is the only family of mammals completely indigenous to North America, and is therefor the most important mammal we have from an evolutionary standpoint.

Antilocapridae is only family of *large mammals completely indigenous to North America.
Not that I'm suggesting you should choose a rodent as National Mammal, though personally I quite like both pocket gophers (Geomyidae) and the mountain beaver (Aplodontiidae) ;)

Whitetail Deer? Found in more states at least. And Bison are basically big cattle nowdays.

Something tells me there will be a problem with drones of citizens heading into the woods every year to hunt down our national mammal. ;)
