It hasn't been posted on for a year, and there's no problem with making a new species list of course (separate thread lists makes it easier to directly compare one to another I find, rather than trying to find updates across several different posts), but if the zoo's collection hasn't changed much over the time-frame then simple updates in an existing thread does seem more logical.
As others said earlier, not having the common names just makes the list pretty much useless for (probably most) people unless they spend their time googling almost every name. You say that people only include the common names "for convenience sake" - but that is the whole point of making species lists for people to use.
