As accusations fly that environmental groups are part of an "anti-growth coalition", Kit Stoner (CEO of Bat Conservation Trust) highlights how nature and business are not at war, and how companies like Vistry Group are proud to partner with conservation organisations to work towards shared environmental goals.

There have recently been accusations that environmental and conservation NGOs are “anti-growth”. We are not anti-growth. We want a thriving sustainable economy which benefits from ecosystems services, where people have access to food, housing and nature on their doorsteps. These can and must work hand in hand.

At the Bat Conservation Trust we have always worked with different industries and sectors to understand what challenges there might be in balancing the needs of people, businesses and nature. Working together to find good practical solutions is the only effective way forward. Our experience is that they are possible, and our industry partners are equally keen to support them.

We do not need to throw away existing protections and good initiatives.

And of course, politicians will jump right onto this train because they can use this to cater to wildlife-threatening special interests. And the worst part...

The Endangered Species Act has become a political football.

I would complete the title with "and should not be" (at war). It is true that many citizens have seen the value of nature. Unfortunately, business people and many politicians don't believe-or even worse won't like to believe- on this. For me, this is the worst of all: governments deny to preserve nature ignoring citizens opinion. Sometimes, I think how many species have been lost or declined due to wars
