I've heard on several forums about plans from nausicaa to open an exhibit with great hamerhead and manta rays. But i can't find any plans or articals about it. Is this going to be a brand new exhibit ? Are they changing a current exhibit? what is the timetable on it ? Are the plan still on the drawing board or are they going foward with it ?

wow, this is very interesting! i'd love that to be the case, tho they'd need to expand, i love nausicaa, but there isn't room in the current state that it is for any sort of manta ray:)

If I see the video the tank is ging to be building underneath the current building ? Will it remain open ? What is the schedule for opening ?

what is the current status of this project ? I've seen some pictures of a building site next to the current building.

Is there a temporary wish/species list. I've heard of manta rays and great hamerheads.

Will the big tank be just an addition to the current aquarium or will species be moved into it and current exhibitions be changed ?

If you look at the video from last year the complete exterior of Naussicaa looks different including the current building.

Here is a Youtube video that clearly shows the new tank and the whole extension of Nausicaa

The first Mobula rays have been added already, but the real Manta rays aren't there yet.

I read an article that said 30+ hammerheadsharks have died at nausicaa since 2011. There are now only 2 left. Also one they Mantarays has died. Due to the staggering transportcost they all won't be replaced.

The last of the hammerhead sharks has also since died.

With 30 animals of the same species dying in eight years, either something isn't going right at this aquarium, or they are doing something wrong - and are not succeeding at figuring out what or why.

Is it just me or do these events raise questions about the skills and professionalism of this aquarium, and perhaps even cast a negative light on the aquarium industry in general? Certainly in some circles something like this might well be used to attack aquariums and zoological collections in general.

That or this species is just not suitable to captivity. In any case it seems wise not to import this species again (and from what I've read, Nausicaa isn't, if only for financial reasons).
