Nearly 1,500 dolphins killed in the Faroe Islands

Primarily for food. From a quick Wikipedia "research", long finned-pilot whales are consistently hunted every year, while white-sided dolphins are only done so occasionally and result in more dramatic number of kills like the described event.

Oh, I see. I do not have objections for people killing for food.

I don't have objections for people hunting for food, but numbers like these are ridiculous and unnecessary.

True, but they may be trying to feed a whole lot of people. Either way though, I feel like it would be more appropriate to do small numbers at scattered times throughout the year.

The islands only have a population of 50,000 and its not like they eat exclusively dolphin ;)

I was on Faroes and they have a short hunting season once a year, which takes place since centuries. And they monitor the number of pilot whales killed to be sure they don't overkill.

Mayki, what about behaving like a modern internet native and looking for independent information elsewhere, instead of discussing one article?

Not doubting you but this goes against all prior research I have done on this subject. Care to share more from your visit?

Is this number not overkill in your mind? As far as I know numbers of this magnitude have never been killed before.

Also "behave like a modern internet native"? Most ZooChatters don't source multiple articles when posting news but if you have a problem with RT here is some other sources if you must:
