Need advice on feeding Wallabies...

Hi guys

Need some guidance on feeding wallabies if possible.

I'm looking after Dads house while he's in hospital. While doing this I've been chucking leftovers on the yard to feed the wildlife. In doing so, the Wallabies have become fixated on bread, specifically . So pretty much every morning I start the day by sitting on the verandah chuckin bread out to em while I have my coffee. Now, Google's telling me that bread's bad for 'em. So I chopped-up a bucket of potatoes, sweet-potatoes, apple & chucked it all out on the yard as an alternative - not interested. Pretty routine for the Wallabies to be waiting around of a morning, but don't wanna make 'em sick. Any advice/alternatives?? Cheers

From what I've been told, bread is like chocolate for macropods in the way that it's meant to be a treat for them. They will eat it and as is the danger with feeding wildlife in general, they can get hooked on it. If they are wild animals I wouldn't worry about feeding them as it's not legal but if they are captive there is a Mammal Keepers Australia Facebook group that may be worth joining/getting in touch with.

Wallabies: free/wild, not captive/pets.

Yeah, kinda figured it was unhealthy for 'em from what I understand. That's why I'm trying to figure out a healthy food alternative(s) for future reference ...

Stop with the bread, keep with the other feed, even a bit of lucerne hay is better. At first they will wait then after a while they will feed on other stuff.

Yeah

Got a big 20kg bag of Macropod pellets, which gets their attention, occasionally. And I chop up some carrots into little chunks, & put that on top of the pellets. They seem to alternate between the two. They're mostly focused on grass tho.

Okay
So for a few months now I've been feeding the Wallabies a mixture of 'Macropod pellets' and chopped-up pellets. No worries, all good

Can anyone think of any alternative ingredients I can add to the mix?

It is illegal to feed wild animals, including wallabies.

Bread causes lumpy jaw.

You say they prefer the grass. Great. Let them graze on the grass and enjoy them when they come in.
