Need help about a pet snake

A friend of mine has decided to get a pet snake, he has absolutely no experience with pets of any kind and is the kind of person that would not take the "best" care of a pet. He also wants a colourful sort of snake and will not accept children's pythons or carpet pythons. Since i cant deter him from the idea, can anyone tell me what the best kind of snake would be acceptable for him.

ps. please keep in mind I live in Queensland, Australia and the laws here are pretty tight about what species you are allowed to keep.

Then recommend him to get a rubber toy snake....

If he's not able to provide the best possible care, he shouldn't keep any pet at all.
 
Given the information you have put forth, i'm not going to suggest your "friend" gets any kind of snake at all.

And neither should you.
 
I agree, he shouldn't have one at all. Does he have a license?

I've tried talking him out of it but he is absolutely adamant. Im not asking for peoples opinions about whether or not he should get a snake, because he cannot be talked out of the idea, all i am asking is what type of snake is relatively colourful and easy to look after. He already has the licence required to look after one, and i have set up a tank for him so that all he has to worry about is feeding it and taking it to the vet.

Also, in response to peacock's comment, i fail to see how i am unworthy to look after pets just because a friend of mine is disorganised and forgetful. I have looked after literally hundreds of animals in my short life, many of which are exotic and very hard to care for, and all of which have lived long and healthy lives. And considering some of the conditions that the animals have had (all of which were hereditary and not due to lack of care, and also very expensive) i would say i am more then fit to look after almost any animal.

Feeding and taking to the vet? What about cleaning the tank and replenishing it's water?

If he's going to keep it - and I presume buy it - why don't you let him decide what he wants?
 
The water i list with food since it is an easy job, unless the animal lives in the water. Although i admit that i had forgotten about cleaning the cage.

The reason i don't let him pick his own snake is because he came to me asking what type of snake he should get, and when i referred him to carpet pythons and children's pythons, he said they were too "boring and plain".
The only reason i am asking on this sight is because i cant seem to find any legal snakes that are even somewhat colourful, although i am not really surprised.

I would honestly be surprised if there were any, but i figured i might as well ask (although i didn't expect all this criticism at the time). If no one can help me, ill just tell him to get a children's python.

If his problem with carpet and children's pythons is that they are too borning and plain then I fear your friend may, without telling you, be most interested in a Death Adder or a Taipan or something else along those lines; with the corresponding danger to himself (if it is as you say, he doesn't know anything about snake keeping) and even worse, to his friends and family, should he be tempted to put on a 'show' one day.

i never said you were. i said that considering that you have stated that your friend is a less than responsible pet owner, i refuse to recommend or assist in this person acquiring a snake - and that neither should you.

so just to make it super clear..

i didn't say YOU shouldn't keep a snake.

i said YOU shouldn't help your friend get a snake.

all you're doing is enabling him/her. and at the very least tell your lazy friend to do their own research.
