On the 3rd of December I shall be visiting Rotterdam Zoo. It has been several years since my last visit and am very much looking forward to seeing the new developments. On the 4th I shall be visiting Artis (unless I have not seen everything I want to at Rotterdam). The last time I was there was when they opened the South America exhibit, can anyone tell me what new developments or new species that have been added there since then. If anyone would like to meet up with me then they are most welcome.

Since then the insect-house and butterfly-greenhouse were build. In the area of the small duck ponds, flamingos etc there is now a walk-through island for lemurs (not a very good one in my opinion). On it are only the red-ruffed ones. They tried to make it a combination, but they got into a lot of fights with the other species.
The polarbears and nile crocs left the zoo and the japanese giant salamander died.
I believe thats it. No very big new arrivals i think.

Did the salamander die? I thought he was on loan from Antwerp and went back when their new reptile house opened? Too bad :(

Other then that, i guess trebaruna mostly summed it up. Only new addition i can remember are the Fennek's at the small mammal house...

yup. construction of the reptile house in antwerp was almost finished when the animal died. Bit sad for antwerp. I believe the very last enclosure of the building was supposed to be its new home. (right before the sliding doors). That enclosure has long been without inhabitants, i think they couldn't come up with a species to replace it. (i'm not sure whats in there today though...)
