On the 31st of May 13-year old Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) Rezeki gave birth to a healthy female!

Tuesday one of the zoo's oldest residents has passed away, 31-year old male European brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos) Lars. He was born in Zoo Karlsruhe in 1990 and lived in the Neunkircher zoo for 26 years. I believe that he was the last European brown bear in the Neunkircher zoo.

On the 15th of October 14-year old male Reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata) Gerry passed away. Does someone know whether the Neunkircher Zoo still has giraffes?
She was given the name Raja.

The Fanalokas are on-show! This is probably the first time in European zoo history, when two zoos (Exmoor & Neunkircher) display this amazing species.

A wild bird with avian flu (H5N1) was found in the Neunkirchen area, therefore the zoo has closed preventively.

One day later the zoo reopened due to the fact that the preventive and safety measures were sufficient enough. The zoo falconry will remain closed for the time being.
