ZSL Whipsnade Zoo New Animals for Easter!

i was planning on going next month, but may wait now in order to catch all these new exhibits, anyone have an idea when it will be opening?

This is very exciting!! Arent the wolves at Whipsnade Americans? I cannot wait to see the way they exhibit these species! European animal exhibits are often an after thought or appear that way anyway. It will be nice to see some new exhibits devoted especially to their European inhabitants.

whipsnade have a promo vid on the web page bout the new exhibit looks like the animals concerned are bison , bears, boar, lynx wolverine nd moose no mention of wolves o nd reindeer

that has to be one of the most unimaginative, uninspiring, crap promotional video I have ever watched for anything in my life! They ought to fire their PR people! I hope the exhibit is a bit more imaginative!

I hate to be negative when it isn't necessary but I was just reading that page and it's really badly written. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this and think it's a great move for Whipsnade to make.

New baby meerkats at the Welsh Mountain Zoo! and the snow leopards are mating again. wack on the marvin gaye and cross your fingers eh.

We were there on Sunday, it's all a big building site in that area at the mo. There are loads of trees there ready for planting and the wallabies and storks seem to have been moved out. Still a lot of work to be done by the looks of it!!

went there saturday and the only visible new animals on display were the moose which are by the wolves the wolverines are by the bears and the boar and lynx are where the old cheetah pad was see my moose photo in whipsnade gallery

Back from 2 very cold and wet days at Whipsnade.

Disappointed that the new enclosures were not finished on time, they were due to be completed on the 27th but was told they will be ready and all open by Easter??? Was told all the animals there, just behind schedule due to the weather. It was very very wet and cold and they were soldiering on in awful conditions.

The wolverine enclosure still had lots of work going on and just looked like a big pile of mud and workmen!

Saw the boars (2) through the security fencing, finishing touched being done, like the signs being put up!

Lynx no sign of, (could not get close due to security fencing) but meshing around the old cheetah housing so assumed it was in there!

Moose were both out and were getting a lot of interest from the wolves!!! nice to see them up close at the fence hunting the moose!!!

Lots of new signs, information signs up and a lot of new planting taking place, the path between the bears and the wolverine had been gravelled and trees planted at entrance

Oh and plenty of mud!!!

Karen, aside from the security fences and mud, do the new enclosures look nice and do you think they'll lend themselves to view the animals easily?

The Lynx enclosure, view wise appears to be the same set up as the old cheetah enclosure, could not see in this one at all.

The boars, had a low wooden fence around it (double fenced i think?) and had lots of wooden stumps and trees.

The wolverine you look down on and the were putting up wooden fencing on the bridge, lots of tree trunks and a small pool in the enclosure at present.

Moose had a viewing area, the large square fencing meant my camera lens would not go through the wiring!!

I will look thro my pictures and see if have any decent shots!!!

I have put up a few shots from today - nothing that exciting!!!! as we didn't spend that long in that area due to not much to see at the moment!!

The zoo map they are giving out is dated till the 1st April so I assume the new areas will faeture on the new map. Just a shame it was not finished as we planned this trip to hopefully see it all!! Had a fantastic time anyway!! it was very very quiet :)

For me, a basic rule of Zoo visiting is when a new exhibit is advertised as opening on such and such a date- I try and leave it a good few weeks before visiting to make sure it is up and running properly.

To be fair to Whipsnade they have had to contend with a lot of bad weather recently so understandable this isn't quite fully ready- they will be trying to tidy it all up for the Easter weekend I guess- but I hope the weather is kinder for them than now, or visitors will be down.

I'm going on my first ever trip to Whipsnade on Wednesday, so I'm hoping that most of the animals will be out then, though I'll probably be a bit early wolverine wise by the sound of it.

Well this exhibit certainly does sound as though it will be interesting. Hopefully I will visit there soon and get to see it.:)
