CMZ just posted on Facebook that we are getting a couple of 4 month old, cute and fuzzy creatures from Montana. Bears??? We will find out tomorrow.
Here's the link:

On a side note, we had a pallas cat that was sent "somewhere...maybe Kansas City...not sure". That is what 2 keepers in the Primate, Cat & Aquatics building told me. I loved him. I want to know where he went. I can't find any website that has something like "animal transactions". I don't have ISIS memorized that I could figure that out. Anyone have an idea?
Thanks for any info.

Just got back from CMZ and got our first look at an adorable pair of grizzly bear cubs. They are rescues from Montana and seemed to be enjoying their first day on public display.Despite Cleveland's bear grottoes being very outdated the zoo did a nice job sprucing things up a bit for these guys. They seemed to be having a ball tearing up tree trunks, climbing on them and swimming in their pool.
My initial speculation was that these bears could possibly be housed here in Cleveland until construction is complete on Grizzly Ridge at the Akron Zoo.Well it turns out I was right, while speaking to a CMZ curator and several other zoo hierarchy we were told that both zoos have had several talks about partnering on their bear exhibits.Akron is then more then likely going to get these bears or others that Cleveland acquires down the line.It is however unclear whether CMZ makes the bear grottoes its next big project or whether they decide to go with primates.During the conversation with zoo staff one of the women in the group said to me"Wow you should be a zoo director" Bonnie shook her head and said please don't tell him that it'll go right to his head. She is probably right :D

Zoo Montana is no longer AZA-accredited and thus the park was not allowed to keep the grizzlies. That's why Cleveland picked them up, and Akron's future expansion will allow the bears to move once again.

By the way, those cubs came from Yellowstone. Their mother was killed after mauling and killing someone outside of the park.

I found out today that the newest pair of cubs were scheduled to arrive today. They will be in quarantine for a month. They WILL be put with Cody and Cooper for about a year until Akron can take 2 of them. We get 1st choice on which 2 we keep. I would guess that the siblings will have to be split up since only one of the 4 is a girl.

elefante- zoo Montana lost their accreditation b/c there was no long term funding in place.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has sent its troop of Hamadryas Baboons to the Knoxville Zoo and has acquired 4 mandrills, the two males are from DAK and the females from a undisclosed zoo. This marks the first time in 15 years that Cleveland has exhibited mandrills.

The mandrills came from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. I am not sure if their new exhibit is any better than their old one though. Are they in the Primate and bunch of random stuff house?

Yes they are going to be housed in the Primate Cat and Aquatics Building. While we are exciting as mandrills are one of my (Marty) favorite animals their exhibit here in Cleveland surely puts a damper on it.Some minor work is being done on their enclosure to better suit mandrills, but lets not kid ourselves the building should be condemned.Hopefully this acquisition is another indicator that the primate facility is the next big project on the zoo's agenda.

I would hope this would be a sure fire indicator, but then I assumed the same thing with the addition of the grizzly cubs. Who knows?
