Has anyone visited this zoo and give us an idea of what it is like?
It seems to be overshadowed by some of its larger neighbours in Ohio

It is quite small, although it has interesting topography.

Originally focused on children, many of the exhibits are frighteningly small and outdated. But in 2001 the citizens of Akron approved both an expansion of the zoo into the adjoining park and a bond to fund growth. Since that time the zoo has changed tremendously.

The first thing they built was a new parking lot and entrance. In 2005 they opened "Legends of the Wild," a mix of exhibits at the entrance. About a year and a half later "Komodo Kingdom" opened, a bit of aquarium, reptile house and rental space.

I saw it last September and thought the transformation since 2000 was astounding. They know they have a lot of work to do, though.

Some people prefer it over nearby Cleveland Zoo because Akron zoo feels more intimate. But I think it's a foolish comparison, They are simply too different.
