Edinburgh Zoo New Arrivals in 2010

Just looked at the zoo's bog and it says Kirka the female wolverine has left. Any ideas where to? I am thinking ZSL Whipsnade.

has anyone been to the zoo since the chimps moved in? any idea how they are all settling in and if introductions have started yet?

yes I was at the Zoo on Wednesday 24th March (one week after they arrived) and the keepers had allowed 1 hour for the chimps to see each other through the cages in the staff only area

following that, in the afternoon, they removed the boards in the public area between each Pod

Quafzeh's group was making the most noise (as expected) as Klaus' group was used to seeing other Chimps

Speaking to the Education staff, poor Libs (my favourite) had a bad week as he knew something was going on and apparantly spent a few nights outdoors and did not come back inside!!

time period for introductions cannot be estimated, it depends on the Chimps!! could be a few weeks, could be 2 years?????

been in a few times since 24/3 but needless to say the Keepers are very busy so not had a chance to speak to any of them yet.....and I havent had much chance to see the rest of the zoo as I have mostly spent my time in Budongo!!!

it took me long enough to decipher the differences between David & Loui, i can identify 5 of the new group so far!!

This is really exciteing news. It's great that they now have like 30 chimps. I really do hope for the best and that they do indeed breed well.......

Is anything happening with the wolf enclosure now they have moved on?

Was in over the weekend and some work has begun in old European wolf enclosure - keepers were in removing old branching that made dens. I gather that an interesting new arrival will be there within the next month or so. Sorry, but I can not reveal what as yet.

Hello monkeygambler and welcome to the site, and already playing the game like a true zoochatter.

New male porcupine has recently arrived to join Hazel and her daughter Peanut!!!

He's easy to spot as well. Up in the tree in their enclosure nearest the sea lions looking as if he is on a dangerously narrow section of the branch!

Has anyone actually seen these porcupines up close? Does anyone catch them moving up the tree?
They are one of the most frustrating things to try and photograph, because you only see a lump at the top of a tree.:(
I have had the same problem at Blackpool!

That's the new male taking up position.

This is baby Peanut last July with mum behind her.

Sorry I haven't managed any tree climbing or descending, yet!

Great news about the little bushbaby babies!! I also noticed yesterday when I was in that the Binturong is back on show, not really a new arrival as I believe they just been off show, but is now located in between the tigers and leopards. Not sure if its just the one or both in together. But fantastic to be able to see this weird but wonderful species again!

@monkeygambler, any news on the new occupants at the former wolf enclosure?
