Guldborgsund Zoo and Botanisk Have New Beginnings for Nykøbing's Zoo with Pangea Park Taking Over

Starting November 1, 2024, Pangea Park will take over the former Guldborgsund Zoo & Botanical Garden site in Nykøbing Falster. This exciting transition ensures that locals, guests, and tourists can continue experiencing wildlife in the area. The agreement allows Pangea Park to manage the animals and facilities, with plans to reopen in 2025 after renovations. This move saves the municipality significant expenses while maintaining an educational attraction for the community.

A small addition: Pangea Park already has a zoo on Zealand (well, animal park - that place doesn't have a zoo license) which will stay open, so they aren't relocating, they're just opening a Falster branch.

It’s exciting to see Pangea Park expanding with the new branch in Nykøbing Falster at the former Guldborgsund Zoo & Botanical Garden site. To clarify, Pangea Park already operates an animal park on Zealand, though it doesn’t have a full zoo license. That location will continue as it is, while this new site will be known as Pangea Park Falster to distinguish it.

Having recently visited the Zealand location, I can share that it’s beautifully designed and well-maintained, with immersive enclosures allowing visitors to observe animals up close. Although it’s not a traditional “petting zoo,” there are some areas where guests can interact with rabbits and goats, and certain spaces allow entry. It’s definitely among the best-designed parks I’ve visited in Denmark.

On my last visit, I only had a single SD card with me, so I prioritized still photography over video and only captured a handful of shots. I’m looking forward to returning better prepared next time, with both my video camera and additional SD cards in hand. I also plan to visit the Falster branch when it opens in 2025, which should offer a fresh perspective on this beloved local attraction.
