Hi -- I will be visiting the Artis Zoo in late December. Does anyone have a species list for the new Bird House and renovated Pheasantry? Also, are there any other good bird areas in the zoo?

Thanks!

Well with the bird house and the renovated Pheasantry you have named the 2 main bird areas in the zoo. There may be some interesting species of owl for a non-european near the elephants and there are a lot of waterfowl species in the different ponds in the middle of the zoo, for a species list check: http://www.zootierliste.de/en/zoosmap.php?showzoo=10000448

it should be quite up-to date.

Thank you. I already checked Zootierliste and have a full list for the zoo. If anyone has a list organized by exhibit, please let me know! Happy holidays!

Artis' Birdhouse has 3 sections;

the coastal section is home to a colony of inca terns as well as blacksmith plover.
the rainforest section is home to lilac-breasted roller, bali starling, wattled jacana, sunbittern, violet plaintain-eater, white imperial-pigeon, emerald pigeon, nicobar pigeon, egyptian plover and white-faced scops owl. the desert section houses crested tinamou, waldrapp ibis, burrowing owl, madagascar foby, blue-faced honeyeater and hyraxes. And there's probably something I forgot. There's also kea's and hornbills in seperate enclosures.

The pheasantry holds bare-faced currasow, occelated turkey, western black crowed crane, red-legged sierema, scarlet ibis, sacred ibis, hamerkop, regent parrot, macaws and ofcourse some pheasants, among others.

Ofcourse things could have changed since my last visit.

I saw a lilac-breasted roller in the desert section last friday.
I see I missed many species on that visit :(. Well, a good reason to for another visit :).

in the coastal area also burrowing owl
in the rainforest area also superb starling and crowned pigeon and a king fisher-species
in the desert section also brown mousebirds and red-whiskered bulbul

The burrowing owls were in the desert section last saturday, I never saw them in another section. The rainforest section also holds Scissor-billed starling and green woodhoopoo

This is what I saw in the birdhouse yesterday.
There could offcourse be species I missed.
