It has been mentioned before that all hybrid giraffe will leave the zoo and essentially will either be transferred to a collection willing to maintain a non-breeding herd of hybrids or just one sex only grouping.

Only Thorn and Aoifie will remain at Chester and from reliable sources we have learned that some more pure-bred Rotschildt's females should come in 2009/2010-ish.

So, Chester is keen to breed giraffe, but not its hybrid giraffes.
 
Penny left the zoo in 2007 (I think). I can't remember where she went to or if she has any surviving young. She was not a good mother.

She went to Blair Drummond Safari Park to join a none breeding group of hybrid Giraffes,as recommend but the Giraffe stud book in return Chester got Aoife and i`m pretty certain the swap took place in 2008.
 
does anybody have a list of all the giraffes that has ever been at chester? If they had any young? And where they are now? Never really payed that much attention to the giraffes but after seeing the newborn born baby. And finding out that most of the giraffes are leaving the zoo I would like to find out more.

I have just noticed on a previous post, that it was said that Penny the giraffe was sent to Blair Drummonds in a swap with Aiofe. I have only just started researching the giraffes but I thought the trade that took place with Blair Drummonds and Chester was Samara the Giraffe for Aiofe. And that Penny the Giraffe went to Flamingo Land. As I say I do not know alot about the giraffes history so correct me if I am wrong.

I also believe this is what happened, as I don’t remember a Penny at Chester but then have only been going regularly in the last few years.

Yep that was by me,and yes you are right Penny want to Flamingoland some how i got my Giraffes mixed up so very sorry for that i will try not to let it happen again.

Don`t worry i didn`t find it offensive,i just got a bit confussed and got my Giraffes mixed up,which doesn`t normally happen.

I have no problem accessing it in work, however at home it struggles. My only conclusion is that I don't have an add-on to internet explorer!
