new exhibits for 2012

Sea World Orlando - Antarctica Empire of the Penguin

This sounds like the Emperors from San Diego are moving over to Orlando then?

Can I ask what the status of the species is at San Diego SeaWorld? Is the group sizeable, and is it possible that if there will be Emperor's at Orlando they will be a second group?

You would think, but no. Emperors are staying in San Diego, not sure the size of the group but they had a baby within the last couple years and it was the first in a long time.

Thanks for the info, just another species that makes me want to do the west of America as opposed to the east :p

The Smithsonian National Zoo has recently opened its American Trails exhibit, plans on a Takin exhibit to finish off Asia Trail, and, as mentioned earlier, the Elephant Trails exhibit is opening soon.
The Queens Zoo was suppose to open a Jaguar exhibit but I don't know what happened there.
Of course BeardsleyZooFan beat me to the Amur Leopard exhibit at Beardsley.;)
Disney's Animal Kingdom just added Grevy's Zebras and Plains Zebras to their African Safari exhibit.
The Roger Williams Park Zoo has just added Sichuan Takin, King Vultures, and Red River Hogs and plans to add more primates, Moose, and Tigers in the near future.
The Mystic Aquarium just added Northern Fur Seals and plans on adding dolphins and Sea Otters (Where? I have no clue)

Also, if SeaWolrd Orlando isn't adding Emperor Penguins to Antarctic Empire of the Penguin, then what's going on exhibit there?

Regarding DAK- where did you hear Grevy's zebras? I was only aware of the Grant's.

Regarding SWO - same penguin species as before: king, rockhopper, adelie, gentoo...

Zebras Make the Headlines at the Animal Kingdom

I haven't been to SeaWorld Orlando since I was like five so I don't know much about what they have besides Orcas, bottlenose dolphins, and California Sea Lions. I didn't even know they had penguins.

The National Aquarium's Baltimore venue is opening Blacktip Reef in the summer of 2013. The exhibit will be home to 20 blacktip reef sharks replicating an Indo-Pacific reef as well as 15 other species. This new exhibit replaces the Wings in the Water exhibit which opened in 1991.
National Aquarium | Coming Soon: Blacktip Reef

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is opening their highly anticipated (and badly needed) new African Penguin exhibit in the Fall or Winter of 2013. This exhibit will house up to 100 birds and allow the zoo to expand their very successful breeding program.

Since you're from Pittsburgh, it wouldn't be difficult to spend some time in Baltimore!

The New York Aquarium is building a new exhibit for the shark species found in the waters of New York. It's called Ocean Wonders: Sharks. Based on the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, I don't know if it'll open as previously planned.:(

This is planned to open in 2015, not 2013.
