Twycross Zoo New Gibbon From Drayton Manor

Looks like a pileated gibbon (Hylobates pileatus), however he looks rather young to have changed colour.

Yeah I thought it was a Pileated but wasn't too sure. it looks very different to a lot of gibbons I normally see. Really big eyes. Loom forward to seeing it!

The only Gibbons I`ve ever seen at Drayton Manor are Lar`s would be very surprised if it was any other species.

You are probably right Zoogiraffe, I also have not heard of them keeping any other species.

Thinking about it he could be going through his colour change, thus the reason for the quite a bit of white colouring around the face.

The adult gibbons at Drayton Manor are listed as Lars but , to me when I saw them a couple of years ago , one had dark rather than light hands so does not look like a normal Lar - possibly Agile or hybrid . Anybody else noticed this ? Do all races of Lar gibbon have the distinctive light hands ?

Hi Tom, I work for Drayton Manor Theme Park and can confirm that Thomas is indeed a Lar gibbon. Hope this helps!

Hi stripes, yes, Thomas was rejected by his mother a shortly after being born so was hand-reared by keepers at the zoo. He's now joined another hand-reared adolescent at Twycross Zoo.

Hi There DMTP Zoo guessing by your name you work at Drayton Manor.
Sorry to hijak this thread but would you be able to tell me anything about the Two Hybrid Sumatrans Tiger brothers you have at the Park?
Such as where they came from, Birth dates - Anything will be great.
Thanks

Kali and Suma both came from Paignton in 2002/2003 before Banda and Tenang the pure Sumatrans came.

Thanks about that Stripes, Do you know where they were born?
The enclosure at Drayton Manor is pretty deacent by the way its very long with the House (which is excellent) and a small compound then the enclosure is the rest. A large concrete mound is in the centre and the pool is it the far end.It has quite alot of vegitation and a few trees.
To me the enclosure is very 80's/90's its simple but it works really well. However I dont find the concrete mound too pleasing but thats just my opinion.
DMTP Zoo do you know anything about the lions that were kept at the Zoo before the Tigers? and if you know anything do you know where they were held and do you know anything about the individuals you kept?
Thanks

No idea where they originate from sorry :(

I was lucky enough to see them both on a trip in 2008 and agree that it's a decent exibit and they both seemed very content.

No Worries :)
Lets hope DMTP Zoo will know something about the Lions. I agree its a deacent enclosure The House is good I liked it with view onto a large indoor enclosure and the Indoor Dens being offshow.

Thanks I visited the Zoo during the Summer and i did like it. It wasnt a big-themed up Zoo like Chessington it was a good if a little bit old fashioned proper Zoo and Gardens.
I spent most of my day there whilst all my friends went on the rides!
I was just wondering if you had any info as Animal History is something im very interested in. Where they kept where the Tigers are now do you know?
