A new Asiatic Lioness appears to joined Bristol Zoo following the death of Moti in may. A sign is apparently on the viewing windows explaining that she is new to the collection. She was breifly seen earlier today by another zoochat member although there is currently no details on her at this time. Apparently she has already been mixed with the male Kamal.

The new lioness is Shiva, she is 5 years old and originally from Bescacon Zoo in France. She is said to be important to the breeding programme as she has not yet had cubs, and the zoo are hoping Kamal and her breed.

The two lions are already mixed together and are said to be getting along fine.

This now leaves 1.1 at Bescacon Zoo, 3 year old Tejas and Lady (Shiva's mother?)

....I've just thought, Shiva is Moti's (and Chandra's) grandaughter (through her son Dacca being the former breeding male at Bescancon- now dead however)

A nice little tribute for the zoo to have a descendant of Moti back at the zoo :)

I don't get this move, they should really have retired Kamal and brought in an old girl. Tejas, Besancon's male, was apparently settling in well with Shiva. Still, I guess it's up to the EEP.

Seeing as the news has been confirmed I guess I shall admit to being the mystery zoochatter. Thanks for the links and info, I am not that interested in big cats, so I did not take that much interest into the new female.
