What about the feces of the Red River Hogs and the intestial problems for the gorillas? I always heard that for that reason they could not be mixed.

Well I hope people at Jersey are aware of this as I think there is eventually some intention to mix the same species there too. I know Gorillas have died from parasitic infections caused by carnivore faeces(fox, bushdog) so its perfectly possible they could be at risk from Pigs too.

Seeing the news about the Irish economy I'm wondering if this might affect/delay the building of the new Gorilla Housing even further.

Are there any pictures or designs of the plans available anywhere? I have searched a lot but can't find anything.

This is the plan that Dublin zoo have released for the new exhibit, construction is expected to begin in September of this year and will take around 1 year.

Thanks for the post vulpes, an impressive looking habitat, one minor quibble for me would be the single entrance in an out of the house onto the island, in a group living species like gorillas, shouldn't there be at least 2 doorways (perhaps there are actually are), to prevent one member of the group blocking the way in/out?, it just seems a narrow strip of land at that end.
Is the lemur island new also?

Looks like another damn fine and overall excellent exhibit :), allthough the text next to the scale document on the right side remain illegible.

Is there a plan to have other primates or pigs or whatever exhibited with the gorillas in the forest.

the "lemur island" is currently the "managbey island" They are not very visible when they are out on the island so black & white lemurs will be much easier to see. I see your point about the door ways and I will clarify that. It is clear from the map that chimpanzees have two entrances there also, so I am sure they are aware of that. the managbey will be housed with the gorilla, their house can be seen at the bottom right of the plan.

Does anyone know the name of the design firm/architectural team that will be working on the new gorilla habitat? Something of this scale will surely not be completed "in-house"...

At one time Jones and Jones (Seattle) was working on this, but likely with an Irish-based partner firm

It is indeed Jones and Jones Seattle based architects, they dont have an Irish base, it is Grant Jones himself and his partner Mario Campos.

Does any one have any pictures they can post of the construction of the Gorilla Rainforest or any drawings of what the exhibit will look like.

Wow very nice :P:D

It says there in the description of the video that the gorillas are moving into their new home in the summer.....so does that mean it'll be done sometime in August or something? Only thing is I'm not sure if that looked like it'd be done in time....unless that was filmed a few months ago or something :P

It looks great. There aren't any leaves on the trees so it can't have been filmed recently. I do hope it will be finished soon, it has taken quite some time unless I'm mistaken.

EDIT: looking back through the thread, it looks like expectations were for work to start in September 2011 so clearly they are ahead of that.

Does anyone have any pics of the exhibit being built or know when it is due to open.
Thanks
