New here at the zoo

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking here for a while and thought it was time I joined up.

I am an animal lover and the President of the friends of our local zoo.

It is a private zoo. What many people like to call a "roadside zoo". A term that always makes me laugh - all zoos are at the side of a road, otherwise no one would be able to get there!!

I firmly believe that the small private zoos have an important role to play, especially here in North America where distance makes it impractical for the average family to visit a city zoo.

They may not be the best in terms of esthetics, no piped jungle sounds, videos or indoor enclosures, but the animals are well cared for and there is an intimacy that cannot be recreated in the large publicly funded zoos.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to being here and posting some of my photos.

Hye welcome to the forums, i hope you like them

Welcome to this forum animalpassions. Don't be put off by the lack of "hellos", as some threads have over 100 people look at them and less than 10 respond to the actual message contained within. There are many here at ZooBeat that prefer to read and absorb all of the material rather than elicit a response.

Hey AP,

Maybe they were lurkers, viewing but not replying?
Anyway, hop on in the discussions.
I've enjoyed the people here and the conversations and have learned a great deal from this dedicated group! I'll bet you'll get loads of new ideas to bring back to your zoo!

greetings from a NZ member !

I havent had access to computer the last few days , otherwise I would have said Hello before now .
I have nothing against private zoos , providing that the animals welfare are looked after . It wasnt that long ago that one of our better zoos here in NZ was a small "private" zoo .

So, 26 people looked at this thread and not a single one bothered to say "hello". Friendly bunch eh?

Hi animalpassions, We do get many lurkers on the forum who could have been looking at your first posting also many of our members from around the world are in different time zones so many will not see your posting right away, sometimes it could take a day or two before other members can reply as many of them are working during the day times hours, You are most Welcome here :)

Hi welcome to zoobeat from another new user. Do tell us more about this private zoo you are involved with - sounds very intriguing - what sorts of species do you care for?

@Ungulata: see the "Guzoo Animal Farm" thread to learn about the private zoo...and welcome to ZooBeat!

Well I'm new here as well, but thought I'd say Hi and welcome as well. Look forward to chatting further with you in the future.
