New London Zoo Map

This came out in paper form a while ago but is now on the website. It's an improvement on the last one in my view as it makes the zoo look rather more full, it seemed half empty before.

That's the one I got a few weeks ago and it is a lovely map. Makes the Aquarium and the Outback look huge though....yea I do know they are big but when I first saw it I couldn't believe my eyes!:D

In my eyes there still look like many areas which could house more species. For the most iconic and famous zoo in Britain it seems odd how the collection (mainly large mammals) has decrased over the years.

Agree entirely - the way the last map lumped together exhibits (all the Into Africa ones only had one label, same with Animal Adventure etc) made it look very empty indeed.

I don't think London should go back to it's postage stamp days but I agree that there are a number of areas which could be put to use with some creative thinking; the emphasis should be, I think, on small and unusual species with some well know iconic species.

The large mammals have decreased because there is not felt there is enough room for larger numbers of big animals (with some justification).

There are some lawns in the middle of the zoo but really there's not a great deal of undeveloped space for large exhibits.

This goes back to the nineties and the financial crisis that almost saw the London zoo lost forever, a large reduction in the stock was exercised, and necessarily so.
The collection at Regents park will never go back to the glory days of 200-300 mammal species and over 1000 bird species, but as the "national" zoo, in the nations capital, there should be a wider representation than there is at present
