ZSL London Zoo New male gorilla

I didn't read Yeboah's page fully (just had a quick glance) but it looked as though he had a lot of siblings and his father even more, which is why I assumed hthat Yeboah was well represented.

My mistake, I'm an idiot :(

Has the method of showing a picture of the male to the females before his arrival ever been used before?

I can't say I've heard of it before and it does seem like a little publicity stunt

I'm not that sure they can even realise the picture is another Gorilla(??), let alone one they could later recognise. Its fine as a publicity stunt, :D but I wouldn't read too much else into it.

For some reason, the father's offspring are often noticed first whereas sometimes if the mother has no other descendants, that somehow gets overlooked. I've done that myself.

Gypsy Rose Pertinax strikes again ;)

I didn't exactly look in my crystal ball but of the 3 males at la Boissiere, Yeboah was the most likely choice as the other younger mother-raised male 'Vimoto' is related to BOTH Zaire & Mjuku through the Jersey line, while the older nonrelated 'Atanga' would be very risky as he had a humanised upbringing.

It is becoming increasinglty difficult now to find unrelated males.

Its the old jam or something else sweet on the back of a laminated picture trick, then its just a matter of time till you get an appropriate shot.

Yes, they sort of 'lick and look' don't they. Take a few licks, then stop and look a what they are licking before doing it again.

I do find this a bit silly really but there's no real harm in it.
