is there now a new male breeding lion at longleat as kabir went to newque after ronnie died to accompany their female so i was wondering if tere was a new male

As far as i know, there is no plans for a new male as yet. The 2 daughters of Luna and Yendi have been given contraceptive plants to prevent breeding, so that will last around 2 years. There are still youngish cubs still in a pride with several of them being males. These males will need to be re-homed before a new male could be brought in. There are several males at Knowsley that could go, including their breeding male, Kenya who have fathered 13 cubs in 2 years. Longleat could swop one of their males with Knowsley. Or probably West Midlands will have a spare male. But as far as i know, no current plans as yet.

Kabir died pretty quickly at newquay from a broken leg (i think) i would of thought they would of got a new male quite quickly after kabir left

I think they said it was just a matter of him jumping down off his platform and landing awkwardly causing him to break his leg, seems so unlucky. Yeah I'm pretty sure Kenya was one of two males that were born in Mafui's pride at Longleat. There move to Knowsley was shown on Animal Park a few years back.

aris at monkey world had a similar thing, he got some kind of infection after the operation to fix it.

i e-mailed the zoo a while ago as to whether they were replacing Kabir, and they said they had no plans. Surely Longleat must be looking for new homes for their males, as one went to Blackpool recently. It seems silly to keep a social animal on her own.

i dont think the enclosure @ newquay is really suitable for keeping the lions i would much prefer them to have leopards (or something like that), the female (connie) is massive easily one of the biggest lions i've seen, she takes up most of the enclosure herself.

We`ve had this discussion on another thread sorry cannot remember which one.But at least the enclosure isn`t the smallest Lion enclosure in the U.K will let you case which zoo has?

I would maybe guess Twycross has the smallest?
Although Newquay's is much too small for lions.

Were they in a mixed exhibit with the Pumas, or did they alternate use of the outdoor area? Is this the area where the Lynx now lives, or where the Fossa now live, as I think I remember both of them housing Pumas.
What is the smallest Lion enclosure in the UK?

i seem to remember during a keeper talk at the lions that the lynx are in the old puma enclosure

Thought the Pumas used to live there. And before that I think they lived in those really small cages the Fossa live in now... Stupid really.
