Longleat Safari & Adventure Park New male lion

i seem to remember during a keeper talk at the lions that the lynx are in the old puma enclosure

The Lynx are in the old Puma enclosure. The original Lion enclosure was a small building on the other side of the path, with mesh outdoor cages- maybe its got fossas now, I don't know.

And, due to the design, I guess that the Sulawesi Macaque (right species?) enclosure probably used to house bears...?

yes, i know that for sure...i've read a article on the history of newquay zoo and the macaque enclosure did inded hold bears, asiatic black bears

Where the Fossas are is where the Lions and Pumas used to be,as for the smallest Lion enclosure its the stud-book holder i believe.

One of the Zoo Yearbooks(can't remember which) has an article on the construction of Newquay's Bear enclosure and a photo showing the bears using it.

Wow... That enclosure's only just big enough for Fossa. I don't think a Lion would even fit in there. That really is quite shocking...

As for the smallest Lion enclosure its the stud-book holder i believe.
I think my guess was right :)

Thought so. That's bad, as late as that?!
Did the Lions and Pumas used to alternate enclosures, or did they have one of those cages each?

They had one half each on my first visit i saw it with just the pair of Lions and boy did it look small, the Pumas had just moved in to what is now the lynx enclosure.

i simply cant imagine a lion even fitting into one of those cages, what was the lion enclosure space used for before the enclosure
