Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens New Male Lion?

How new are you talking? The previous male died at the end of last year i believe, and the male from Bristol was brought to the park in hopes of breeding.

Well if its true, that would mean they have 2 males and a female, which seems an unlikely pride.

I highly doubt they would bring a second male in, there is no breeding happening with the current pair, and they are quite old anyway. Possibly if you describe the male you seen, and it could be cleared up to whether it is a new male or not. Chandra (the current male) is quite a distinguishable male, having a notably minimal mane

I may have the answer. I visited Bristol on Friday 19th June and there was a notice on the exhibit information board saying the male lion had been swapped with the male lion at Cotswold Wildlife Park. :)

Hope that helps,

Martin

Pretty sure!
It was there in black and white and stapled to the species information board.
Was Chandra at Bristol before then?

Yeh, Chandra was Bristol's original male, he moved to the cotswolds after his brother Sabu died.

Twycross's lone male Kamal joined Bristol's lioness to breed, but was found that she was too old to bred/health issues.

Maybe they want to try and give Kamal and the Cotswold female one last shot at breeding?

Seems that they'd want to breed the female at Cotswolds is the most simple solution. KateA should know what's going on.

I think that is undoubtedly the reason as Chandra is probably subfertile and Moti can't breed now- but there is still a chance with the other two.

I think thats it Pertinax ive heard Moti's breeding cycle is slowing down and may of even stopped so this is most likely the answer.
This way Moti and Chandra are back together and can lead the rest of their lives together with no breeding chance avaliable and maybe there could be a chance with Kamal and Akela to breed.
Anything to get some Asiatic cubs i guess.

Cotswold Lions

A new female Asianic Lion has joined the current pair. They look like they are getting on well

That would be the old female from Dudley called Gir. She moved to make way for the two Twycross girls so they can be paired with Itar their new young male.
Creating a small old group at Cotswold seems to be a good idea.
