Hi All,

I am a new member to the site. I am a filed biologist/conservationist with a lot of experience in managing captive reintroductions but have just taken over a small private collection in the UK. I have limited experience in managing captive animals without a reintroductionplan but otherwise have a very strong background in in situ wildlife management.

I have joined ZC to engage with enthusiasts, share ideas and whatever else comes up.

Out of sheer interest: Was your wild dog in Tanzania (Mkomazi) or southern Africa (De Wildt, Painted Dog project)?
(not much choice there … really)

WildDog is just a name:) I used to work around the Selous but it was not Wild Dog related, I was working on establishing wilslife corridors with communities.

I am unfortunately reluctant to name the collection as I am not sure how it would go down with my employer. It is a good but small collection which I am tasked with developing.
 
OK, fine ... we understand! Good luck on the collection. I am sure given time you will fall into place. I am sure your in situ wildlife experience may come in handy too ... :)

As to the Selous I have very fond memories of the place. A gem among Africa's wild places, sadly now greatly at risk as Kikwete government is lax on the wildlife crime side (a far cry from the Nyerere days ..).

Incidentally, the name wild dog ... the Selous has a very good population of them!
