When I read articles like, I always wonder how many countless species have gone extinct without ever having been discovered and described. Their stuffed bodies will never sit in dusty museum cabinets, their names never appearing in the annals of scientific journals. There will be no record of entire species having existed in this planet. I always have mixed emotions at times like this because of course it is great news that new species are discovered, but with human habitation encroaching on their forest, part of me wishes that we never realised what was out there to lose. I suppose that the information can be used to leverage the forest's protection which would be a fantastic result. The downside is that as soon as papers like this are published, the human pet trade vultures swoop in to collect specimens for the illegal wildlife trade. Oh the complexity of it all!
