New VENONOUS species of slow loris found !

Until this point the only mammal that was venomous were a few members of shrews and Order Monotremata; family Omithorhynchidae (If I missed an order, please tell me..I've got to learn this stuff for a living :P ).

"To access its poison, a slow loris rubs its hands under glands near its armpits. Then the animal applies the poison to its teeth, and the resulting bite can put a person or predator into potentially fatal anaphylactic shock"

technically slow loris aren't venomous. The toxin comes from a gland on the body.

The venomous mammals are monotremes, some shrews and solenodons (no rodents).

There's a thread on the "new" slow loris in the Conservation section of the forum.

Shrews aren't rodents? :S what order are they apart of? I wrote Rodentia just to generalize because i could of sworn the were ..whoops! . I've got the orignal posted edited now ( Thanks bunches! )

To clarify, Chlidonias, are you saying echidnas are venomous?

Seems to be overkill, doesn't it?

Platypus :D to my knowledge echidnas arent at least, even tho the males have a spur on their hind legs like the platypus but its not connected to a venom gland
 
I know about platypus. But why say 'monotremes' when you're referring to just one species?

I didn't actually notice your typo! :D

My Spanish is very limited (mostly ordering food and suchlike) but I always remember that 'nutria' means otter!

Nutria is also an alternate name for the Coypu (Nutria is the name I prefer). Koala is the Spanish name for Koala:D There's no letter K in any original spanish word so it's pronounced the same and spelled the same. Same deal with pizza but Z is in the Spanish alphabet.

Oop, another typo. Thanks for that catch. For it to be hables, the word would have to be habler instead of hablar.

So that's two new species of primates announced this year. First the Lesula and now this guy. The Myanmar Snub-Nosed Monkey is the only one I knew of before then.
