Hi every1.
Just a short note to say that Caps (the captive animal protection society) has launched a new zoo video titled "No Place like Home". I just thought zoochatters could say what they thought of it, personally the percentages shock me but i'm pretty stuck for words looking at that video but i know caps show all the bad things about zoos which is about 20% and never the good. Here is the link www.captiveanimals.org/zoos/noplace.html

Personally, I believe zoos do have a role to play in modern society and that animals can be given satisfactory enclosures. However, many (most?) need to try harder to achieve this and while there are still bad enclosures out there, CAPS, PETA and Born Free will continue to have valid ammunition. But it is unfair that they only show the bad, never the good. For example, they filmed mercedes in her pitiful enclosure, yet they did not say she will be moving to a huge new one soon.

this kind of thing does anger me slightly. If these organisations stopped, looked, and researched and realised that many places these days actually have a valid role in conservation. Take the southern white rhino for example, and work being undertaken by places such as the aspinall parks, animals being returned to the wild. If they stopped spending so much time trying to piece together useless ammunition, and focused their efforts and money on helping these places, they could be doing a LOT more good. (Not saying there is no need for animal welfare organisations).
