New zoo in Redditch

Dear all,

Thank you to those of you who have already been in touch with me directly with supportive messages about the development of Heart of England Wildlife Park.

We are currently finalising our plans with Redditch Borough Council, Historic England, Worcestershire Highways and other key stakeholders. We intend to make an announcement on the exact location of our site in early October when we submit full planning proposals to Redditch Borough Council. At the end of September, we will be releasing concept art and also our proposed landscape plan for the development.

We have recently launched a YouTube series which allows you to follow along in all stages of our development. The videos released at this stage follow our journey in March/April. We are still filming vlog footage and will continue to release new videos on a weekly basis. Our most recent video provides a sneak peek at some of the plans we had commissioned for a site in Wychavon.

It is our intention to apply for EAZA 'Under Construction' membership and to join co-ordinated efforts to conserve EEP species. We are working with a leading zoological consultant to provide advice and support on our collection management and EAZA application.

I must thank everybody who has already supported our CrowdFunder initiative. Every pound donated makes a huge difference to the acceleration of our project and will be the difference between opening with zebra and ostrich or opening with an even wider range of exciting species. We are giving supporters of our project the chance to 'Join the Pack' and join our ever expanding community of animal and zoo enthusiasts. For a one off pledge of £35 you will be able to vote weekly on key management decisions such as which animals are exhibited in future at Heart of England Wildlife Park and supporters even receive access to exclusive behind the scenes updates and content.

For the most up to date news on our progress and developments please visit our website www.hofewildlifepark.com or our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/HofEWildlife Park

Best wishes and thank you once again for your support.

Martin

While I genuinely wish this project the very best, I stopped watching the YouTube clip at the point at which we were told that they wanted to “move away from the word ‘zoo’ because of its negative connotations”. Sounds like the sort of nonsense from which I thought we’d mostly moved on...
