The Mareeba Zoo, located about 30 Kms in land from Cairns, opened just in time for Christmas.

Sorry, I don't have much on this as yet but a link to a news story that does seem to work.
 
Well, keep us posted (ooh, I made a pun !)

I need a reason to head north - a new zoo to visit is always a good excuse :D
 
Ah, well if you need a reason...

The Reef Casino has just converted its top floor restaurant which has a domed glass roof to an indoor zoo. This a been done in conjunction with the Rainforest Habitate in Port Dougals. :D

I keep forgetting about this development, as I just can't to terms with the concept!

Add to that Wild World about 25 minutes north of the city, on the way to Port and The Mareeba Wetlands, not zoo but well worth a visit.

(I'll keep the fact that I work in hospitality a secret! :p )
 
Pretty exciting news!!

For me at the very least. According to how I read the info on the web site the cheetahs are due to come out of quarantine. :cool:

If this is correct, I've asked them to confirm be email, you have one guess as to where I plan to be this Sunday!

I've had a reply, first thing this morning! (Pretty good service, me thinks.)

Looks like I have to wait a week. Ah well it should be all the sweeter, anticipation makes for a great sauce.
