Another article about this new skink-species :

New species of skink from Angola has waited over 70 years to be described

Scientists describe two new white-eye species - BirdWatching

This title is misleading as no new species were described in the paper they reference.
This is an example of a major pet peeve of mine and that is what correctly should be called a new species. There is some leeway in terms and some can be called two different terms and still be correct.
A species without a scientific name is best called an undescribed species, while it is/will be a new species, I feel the term new species is best keep for a newly described species.
A species split of a organism with a scientific name already is not a new species. That would be a newly recognized species. This happens most often in popular science articles trying to explain things to the masses but it drives me crazy.
Thank you for allowing me to vent.
