Taxonomy news - Mammal Watching mentions:
1. The new genus of rodents with 3 species described from the Choco region. Vogelcommando mentioned Pattonimus on Monday 30th November.
2. An opossum, Marmosops pinheiroi, has been split into 3 species.
3. There is a new jackrabbi split on the coast north of Tampico, Mexico.
4. The recently split Persian water vole may occur in Israel but is invisible.
5. The water voles, a Arvicola monticola, A. terrestris and A. scherman may be synonyms of A. amphibius or A. monticola to be a valid species. The current list of species may be A. amphibius, A. monticola, A. sapidus, A. italicus and A. persicus.
6. Mammals of Taiwan. Volume 2. Rodentia. Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan splits the Taiwanese Petaurista petaurista/philippensis as P. grandis and the Taiwanese P. alborufus as as P. lena. The Taiwanese harvest mice belong to recently split Chinese Micromys erythrotis rather than Palearctic M. minutus. Tamiops maritimus has been synonymized with T. swinhoei; Taiwanese T. formosanus may belong to this species.
