Newly discovered / described species 2020

Both look like really unique species! I especially like the millipede. Looks like jewel. Like the catfish too.

New FAMILY of bony freshwater fish found in Kerala, India

Rare fish family discovered in paddy fields of Kerala
The paper describing the family is here (open access): https://www.researchgate.net/public...oidei_from_subterranean_waters_of_South_India

This paper erecting the new family was just published, but the two species were both described last year (placed in the family Channidae), and the first of those species (A. gollum) was discovered the year before that when floods apparently washed some fish out of the underground aquifers into the local paddy fields. This was the eighth subterranean fish species found in this part of Kerala, so it is believed that the aquifers hold a significant fishy ecosystem but individuals are found only fortuitously after flooding episodes or in the bottoms of wells.

New species of the Genus Jotus. A genus or jumping spider from Australia. Yet to be described but was discovered in a backyard, it will be described when museums Victoria’s office re-opens. There are two specimens in captivity.

To further expand on this the same person who is handling the taxonomy of this species has pictures and is in the process of describing three other newly discovered jumping spiders. One Jotus, one Maratus and one Saltis.

It’s also the same individual that described seven Maratus species earlier in the year including one of my favourites Maratus constelatus
