Squirrel splits in Southeast Asia by Hinckley et al (2024) – Mammal Watching says that
Hinckley et al (2024) split the grey-bellied squirrel (Callosciurus caniceps) and Himalayan striped squirrel (Tamiops mcclellandii).

1:The grey-bellied Squirrel (Callosciurus caniceps) is split to the northern grey-bellied squirrel (C caniceps) and southern grey-bellied squirrel (C concolor).

2: The southeast Asian striped squirrel (Tamiops barbei) is split from the Himalayan striped squirrel (T mcclellandii).

Sydney Funnelweb Spider Atrax robustus, split into three species on morphological and genetic differences, A.robustus remains with a somewhat reduced distribution, A.montanus has been resurrected and A. christenseni is a new species described from a range restricted area near Newcastle.

Article: Sydney’s famous funnel-web spider splits into three!

This may be somewhat controversial, but I have always thought the push by Australian Reptile Park and their partners and supporters to collect male Funnel-webs for their venom milking program strikes me as a bit odd, I find it a bit hypocritical that the Australian Museum calls out poachers when they and the Australian Reptile Park are encouraging the public to essentially capture mature male Mygalamorphs (because the general public cannot tell the difference between other mygalomoprhs and a Funnelweb) that are out looking for females to mate with, surely this would have at the very least, localised effects on the species, potentially even worse. I understand that the program needs spiders but there is a certain point where it becomes unacceptable.

New Gecko belonging to the genus Cyrtodactylus from East Java was recently described, Cyrtodactylus pecelmadiun, named after a traditional Indonesian dish along with one of the cities where it is often served.

A New Species Belonging to the Cyrtodactylus sadleiri Complex (Squamata: Gekkonidae) Has Been Discovered in East Java, Indonesia | Zootaxa

Indonesians have found this name to be particularly hilaqrious as it is the equivalent of naming your species C. spaghettibolognaise
Should make food enthusiasts more involved in conservation, or at least it is hoped:p

Researchers identify two new crocodile species

McGill University researchers, in collaboration with Mexican scientists, have discovered two previously unknown species of crocodiles, one living on the island of Cozumel and the other on the atoll of Banco Chinchorro, both off the Yucatán Peninsula.

The findings challenge long-held assumptions about the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) and highlight the urgent need for conservation efforts, the researchers say.

Larsson and his team analyzed the genetic sequences of crocodile populations from Cozumel and Banco Chinchorro. Comparing these sequences to those of crocodiles across the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico's Pacific coast, they found striking levels of genetic differentiation, leading the researchers to conclude that these populations were not simply variants of Crocodylus acutus. The two new species have not yet been named.

"These results were totally unexpected," former Larsson graduate student and lead author José Avila-Cervantes said. "We assumed Crocodylus acutus was a single species ranging from Baja California to Venezuela and across the Caribbean. Our study is the first to extensively explore genomic and anatomical variation in these animals."

Amazing that species as large as a crocodile are still only now discovered by science!
