Newquay Zoo Newquay Zoo News

Newquay is delighted to announce, in an email message, that they will be re-opening on Monday 12 April. Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 April will be exclusively for Annual Pass holders. They will re-open for everybody on Wednesday 14 April. Tickets available to book online from midday 22 March. All guests required to book time slots. All indoor animal houses will remain closed. Take away food will be available.

Presumably Paignton will be following suit.

I had a promotional email from WPT saying that it will be exactly the same for PZ.

I guess most places will be same between the 'April 12th' changes and the 'May 17th' ones. After that they should at least be able to open up inside (both exhibits and catering). Will be interesting to see how long the booking thing stays.

Newquay Zoo have posted on their website a roundup of news since January 5th:

- On February 24th, a new male and female Visayan warty pig arrived, joining the two females still at the zoo. The male (named Randy) came from Yorkshire Wildlife Park while the female (called Ada) came from Bristol Zoo. The intention is to create a new breeding group.

- At the start of February, a female Philippine spotted deer was born to mother Belle and father Alfie.

- On February 23rd a slender loris was born; the article makes no mention of what sex the new baby is. It is the fifth offspring of mother Ribke and father Sheldon.

- On March 1st a Goeldi's monkey was born to parents Tao and Japura. This is the second baby of this pair; the first was born during the March 2020 lockdown.

As recorded elsewhere, they’ve got sheep
They already had the sheep, they only moved them across the zoo. The owls have just been playing musical aviaries: the Ural owls from Newquay have been transferred to Paignton, according to the Newquay website.

I’m wondering if they’ve decided to block that Owl ‘alley’ off to become an off-show area? When the zoo closed there were a number of empty owl aviaries between the lion & cassowary areas. The Spectacle Owl chicks (3?) must be ready to move on too?
