I thought Newquay had more Black Wildebeest than three, they did last time I went there anyway. It could be four if the zebra only 'live alongside' three with there being a fourth, a seperated male, but maybe they have also lost a couple or moved them. Also I thought they had more than a single Chapman zebra female?

It’s possible they lost an elderly Zebra mare. I think the most Zebras they’ve ever had at once has been four?
The breeding male Wildebeest used to spend most of his time on the hard standing. I think there was at least one female he didn’t like?

With fewer than 2,300 Carpathian lynx left in the wild, every kitten born here at Newquay Zoo is a big step forward for conservation. Originally selected for the ambitious Linking Lynx rewilding programme, the young female has found her calling in a different but equally important role – as a future breeding mum at Zoo Karlsruhe in Germany. Newquay Zoo said it was the only zoo in the south-west of England and one of two zoos in the UK to house endangered brown hyenas, also known as strandwolves.

Flo and Quinn, a sibling pair aged just under two years old, arrived from Hamerton Zoo Park in Cambridgeshire on Wednesday.

Flo and Quinn had been housed in the old lion enclosure.

I recall that this was the species in a sense I centered my 2022 Germany Trip around. At the time there weren’t very many in Europe… an old pair in Czechia and a few animals at Wildkatzenzentrum Felidae which hadn’t bred by the time I was there and still tiny knowledge have not. I felt it right to pay a trip just in case they weren’t around in Europe much longer…
How wrong I was about that! I wonder if the recent success with the brown hyaenas and aardwolves will lead to the creation of two new EAZA hyaenid programmes in time

At the moment there are no unrelated animals breeding outside Moscow, and they are perhaps somewhat out of reach at the moment.
