Three Timneh African grey parrots (Psittacus timneh) have hatched at Zoo Landau.

A few weeks ago a male Hartmann's mountain zebra (Equus zebra hartmannae) arrived from Tierwelt Herberstein (Austria). I believe that the zoo Landau currently has 2 male Hartmann's mountain zebras.

Yesterday a female Congo grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus erithacus) was stolen from
the rehabilitation aviary, in which only confiscated African gray parrots live.

The expension of the African savanna enclosure has started yesterday!
Apart from the already present Blue wildebeests (Connochaetes taurinus taurinus) and Hartmann's mountain zebras (Equus zebra hartmannae), the enclosure will also house a small gazelle species. Also a new playground for children will be build in this area.

The expension of the African savanna enclosure has started yesterday!

Any idea which small gazelle species? Cuvier's or Thomson's or Dorcas gazelle?

Not sure, they haven't announced a species yet.

I don't know whether the theft has been cleared.

Zoo Landau has the largest group of Colombian black spider monkey's in Europe and recently again a new animal was born, bringing the total of animals kept to no less then 16 !

Recently another Colombian black spider monkey was born, bringing the total number of spider monkeys in the zoo to 17.

Recently male dromedary camel Kemel (*05/2022, Landau) was send to Tierpark Essehof.
On the 28th of February a female Java sparrow (Padda oryzivora) arrived from Kölner zoo. On the same day 2 male and 4 female Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldti) (*2021) were send to Zoo Amiens.

On the 6th of March a female Visayan spotted deer (Rusa alfredi) was born.

Sadly 12-year old female Bush dog (Speothos venaticus) Aruma was euthanised recently, she suffered from age related illnesses. She was born in Tierpark Berlin in January of 2011 and arrived at Landau in 2013, she briefly stayed in Neunkirchen in 2017. Aruma was the oldest Bush dog in the EEP population. Currently only a male named Branco remains, the zoo hopes to receive a new breeding pair in the future. This pair however never raised any offspring.

On the 1st of May 2 Azara's agoutis (Dasyprocta azarae) were born.

In May 3 meerkats arrived at the zoo, 2 males from Krefeld and a female from Karlsruhe.

At the end of last month 3 Lilacine amazons (Amazona lilacina) hatched. Last year a male hatched, a zoo first breeding for Landau.

In July 2 Eastern grey-crowned cranes (Balearica regulorum gibbericeps) hatched.

On the 22nd of July a young wild European eagle-owl (Bubo bubo bubo) was rescued from the outside enclosure of the tigers. No-one knew that this species could be found on the zoo grounds (and even bred there).

In August 2 Superb starlings (Lamprotornis superbus) hatched.

On the 16th of October a female Colombian black spider monkey (Ateles fusciceps rufiventris) was born.
On the 19th of October a female Ankole Longhorn was born.

Since the 29th of October a pair of Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta) have arrived at the zoo, this species has been kept at the zoo between 2002 and 2009.
