At the end of last year (2023) the zoo received a female White-backed magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen hypoleuca) from Zoo Praha to accompany the already present male. According to the Instagram of Landau Zoo, 3 white-backed magpies hatched in Praha last year.
On the 17th of December a male Kirk's dik-dik (Madoqua kirkii) was born, six months earlier a female was born.
On the 31st of December a female Visayan spotted deer (Rusa alfredi) was born.
Earlier this month 42-year old female Common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) Cindy passed away. Currently Landau has two chimpanzees left Bägges (*1982) and Gerti (*1976).
In June 2 Von der Decken's hornbills (Tockus deckeni) hatched, a zoo first breeding for Landau!
In July 2 Eastern grey crowned cranes (Balearica regulorum gibbericeps) hatched. In May a Lilacine amazon (Amazona lilacina) hatched.
On the 10th of July 15-year old female Red River hog (Potamochoerus porcus) Ronja was euthanised. Hopefully a new female will arrive soon.
On the 20th of July a male Colombian black spider monkey (Ateles fusciceps rufiventris) was born.
On the 22nd of July a male Philippine cockatoo (Cacatua haematuropygia) was send to Chester Zoo to form a new breeding pair, Landau is left with one male.
On the same day 2 Lilacine amazons (Amazona lilacina) were send to Twycross Zoo.
Recently 17-year old male Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) Igor was euthanised.
On the 15th of Augustus male Dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius) Junah (*08/02/2023) was send to the Opel Zoo.
On the 11th of August 2 Socorro doves (Zenaida graysoni) hatched.
On the 6th of August an Abdim's Stork (Ciconia abdimii) hatched.
On the 6th of August an Azara's agouti (Dasyprocta azarae) was born, on the 25th of August a female was send to Tierpark Hellabrunn and a male to Zoo Neuwied.
Yesterday female Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) Daria arrived from Zoo Debrecen. Her sister Dana was also supposed to come to Landau, but she was injured during preparations to transport her to Landau. It is not yet known if she will come to Landau.
This means that Landau has Siberian tigers again after their last two tigers died last year.
Last Summer the zoo received a male Baron's green racers (Philodryas baroni) and in December a female arrived from Tierpark Hellabrunn. To prevent the two snakes from eating eachother, Frankfurt and Landau exchanged males to get a male that matched the size of the already present female.
The first young of this year has been born, namely twin Azara's agoutis (Dasyprocta azarae).
