A male white rhino was born last night, mommie "Nina" and the newborn little boy are doing fine. It's the 2nd rhino to be born in Austria.

A Short-eared elephant shrew was born at Schmiding .

Nala, Austrias first captive-born Southern white rhino ( 2012 ) left Schmiding and was send to a collection in France. In exchange the female Renette from France came to Schmiding .

A male white rhino was born to 2nd time mum Nina.

A third whito rhino calf was born within four month :

1,0 Nio born 09/30. 2019 to Nina.
1,0 Taio born 10/19. 2019 to Nikki
0,1 ? born 01/29. 2020 to Renette.

Yes, in February this year I saw one pair of Horned Screamers there.

In May a new enclosure for the South American tapirs (Tapirus terrestris) was opened.

This year a Silvery-cheeked hornbill (Bycanistes brevis) hatched.

Last weekend a male Rothschild's giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) was born.

In April a Red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis) hatched.

In May 2 Black and white ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata variegata) were born.

Three weeks ago a female Scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah) was born, not sure if this is a zoo first breeding for Zoo Schmiding.

Male Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Kisumu on recommendation of the EEP has been send to zoo Praha to start a new familiy. There he will live together with 4 females: Kamba, Kijivu, Duni and Shinda.

Last week a Kirk's dik-dik (Madoqua kirkii) was born. This is also a zoo-first breeding for Zoo Schmiding!

The new enclosure seems to be a succes, recently Schmidings first Lowland tapir was born .

The newborn is a male.

Recently female Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Gaika arrived from Madrid Zoo and last month female Milele arrived from Zoo Wilhelma. Zoo Schmiding now has 1.2 Western lowland gorillas.

Recently a Western sitatunga (Tragelaphus spekii gratus) was born.

Yesterday female Rothschild's giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) Samira gave birth to a male. 14 days ago her brother, Kiano, was send to Zoo Magdeburg.
