The former vice-director and curator for the big cats always said they were not allowed to breed with Ina because her line is to much represented in the genetic pool. Pepe turned 2 last week, so if breeding might work when he is 3 or 4, Ina will be 14 or 15 ... IMHO, that old age for a first time mum is pretty worrying.
 
Of the ten species of Tanzanian chameleon (seventy individuals in all) moved to Vienna Zoo after being confiscated at Vienna airport in January, almost all have now bred. This includes the critically endangered Nguru dwarf chameleon, which has had twelve young hatch in the past few weeks.

Very sad news, I'm still shocked, 2-year-old African elefant girl Kibali went over the rainbow bridge yesterday. She seemd to be weak the day before, was under observation. Yesterday, in front of the keepers and vets, she collapsed and died of heart failure. :-(
 
Both Turopolje pigs (sus scrofa dom) Aurelia and Luise gave birth. There are up to 16 funny little piglets in their enclosure now (I can't count them). In same way the piglets more look like Dalmatian puppies than piglets.

According to Zootierliste at the Vienna Zoo they have:

-Coereba flaveola
-Nesocharis capistrata
-Psarisomus dalhousiae
-Pycnonotus dispar

...and Lanthanotus borneensis and several very interesting chameleons. Does anyone know something? Can they be seen?
 
On the 22nd of May 2 female White-nosed coatis (Nasua narica) were born.

On the 19th of July a male South American sea lion (Otaria byronia) was born.

One month ago a female Mhorr gazelle (Nanger dama mhorr).

On the 3rd of June a Linnaeus' two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus) was born, the gender is still unknown.

In August a male Blesboks (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi) arrived from Zoo Praha.

Sadly 13-year old male South American tapir (Tapirus terrestris) Tibi passed away during an emergency examination. His health deteriorated in the past few days and therefore urgently needed an examination, his heard stopped beating under anesthesia. He was born on April the 14th 2008 in Szeged Zoo (Hungary). In May 2010 he and his brother Deszö arrived at Zoo Vienna.

On the 16th of September the new enclosure for Barbary macaques (Macaca sylvanus) and Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia) was opened. This enclosure is located behind the Regenwaldhaus and covers an area of 1.130 m².

On the 26th of July a King penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) hatched.

On the 25th of July a Pygmy marmoset (Cebuella pygmaea) was born.

Sadly 2-year old male South American sea lion (Otaria byronia) Pedro passed away. He just reached the right age to be send to a different zoo, for this he needed to undergo several tests. He had a respiratory arrest and died while waking up after the anesthesia.

Remember to state what species you are talking about, not everyone knows what animals you are talking about just by their names. @Crowthorne literally just told you to do so yesterday, how did you already forget lol. For anyone who doesn’t know, he’s talking about African Elephants. Tembo is a proven breeder so there’s a very good chance he has already bred the girls and one or more of them is pregnant. Mongu is a priority for breeding as she’s getting up there in age and I hope Numbi is pregnant since she sadly just lost her daughter Kibali.
