That's what I was thinking...

Anyways, the giraffe calf naming contest ends tomorrow so we should learn the little girl's name quite soon. Let's just hope this goes better than Beco's naming went and the name will be meaningful.

Under Construction: Night Hunters XV | Cincinnati Zoo Blog

Night Hunters update. This update focuses on the murals of the exhibit and also gives hints to where some of the animals will be. The Aardwolves will have the old Coatimundi exhibit and the Aardvarks will have the former Serval exhibit. I'm really hoping the Aardwolf mural isn't finished as it doesn't stand up to the original murals. It's really rather disappointing as the old murals were always so realistic.

Is there anybody who can give me recent information about the Cincinnati bonobos (livestock)??

Thank you... Bjoern

I will be heading out to see Zuri this Monday. Hopefully she'll be photogenic ;)

@BjoernN - Well I can tell you that the Cincinnati Zoo has a troop of ten Bonobos with the last birth being a year and a half ago. As far as the recent gender ratio or individual specifics, I can't say. ISIS doesn't list the gender of the last baby born, it lists them as having 4.5.1.

I'm heading out to the zoo today. Expect a full report, complete with pictures, when I get back this evening.

Well, I'm back from a day at the zoo. I only had a few hours, so I was a little rushed. I did see most of the zoo though. I was hoping that since it was a Monday it wouldn't be crowded. I was wrong.... There were at least two school groups and people every where.

First off, Zuri, the Masai Giraffe calf, is absolutely adorable. Zuri and her mother, Tessa, are still both inside the barn and can be viewed from the glass viewing window. Unfortunately, there was a long line to see her and the windows were smudged so I didn't get any pictures of her. The keepers said that she will be outside in a week or so, so I'll make sure to go back.

No sign of the Diana Monkeys in Jungle Trails. Their sign wasn't up and they weren't on exhibit, however they are still listed on their website. White-naped Ravens and an African Rock Python have been added to Jungle Trails.

A Barred Owl now lives in the aviary outside the front door of Wings of the World that used to be home to Kookaburras. The Wetland and Grassland displays in Wings of the World were also renovated.

I have yet to see the new Indian Rhinoceros. I have visited at least three times since she arrived and she hasn't been out once, leaving two of the yards in Rhino Reserve empty. Still no sign of the Okapis and the Yellow-backed Duiker. The male Eastern Bongo was in the yard listed for the Okapis on the map. He's been in there for my past three or so visits. There is no signage suggesting that either of the species are on exhibit.

On the bright side, the Steller Sea Eagles are nesting again!

Today I saw my first Chinese Alligator feeding in the Reptile House. I have to say, it was quite a show. Most of which was watching the keepers trying not to fall into the water while trying to hop onto the tiny central island. I also had another first: I finally saw a Spectacled Bear swimming! On my countless trips to the zoo I have never seen the Spectacled Bears swimming until today.

I'll be uploading my pictures shortly! :)

Zoo has redesigned it's website,

From the Zoo Blog:
also SSP has made recommendation to to transfer male “Butch” to the El Paso Zoo in exchange for their male “Henry”.

Butch will have the opportunity to reproduce with the female in El Paso. As a behavioral non breeder, Henry will make a better match up for our female “Lana” who is not recommended to reproduce due her age.

I was checking out the zoo's website and I saw a new species on their species list: the Aye-Aye! Since I didn't see any on my visit, I assume they will be arriving for Night Hunters.

I wasn't thinking about the possibility of them putting the Aye-Aye(s) on the Diana Monkey island. I guess I just assumed it/they would be in a nocturnal exhibit. It's quite an interesting possibility, but it's an open-topped island. Are there any other open, diurnal Aye-Aye exhibits?

The Dianas were on an Island? Last time I saw them they were in the first indoor African exhibit to the right of the old Shoebill winter exhibit.

The Dianas are on the island when you first enter Jungle Trails and have been for quite some time now. Knowing that you thought the Dianas were still there makes more sense as to why you thought the Aye-Ayes were replacing them :P

@groundskeeper24- They don't still have Aye-Ayes, but rather they have recently acquired them or are acquiring them. The Aye-Ayes were just added to their website yesterday. Seeing as I didn't see them Monday, I was assuming they were coming for Night Hunters.

The zoo recently obtained an Eurasian Eagle Owlet. Currently it is on display in the nursery, but it will be moved to Night Hunters when it opens.

Yeah, Sorry for the misunderstanding!

I now regret skipping Jungle Trails on my last visit. When I last toured the complex Muellers Gibbons inhabited the island (which is at the start in the Asian section). What species currently occupy the primate enclosures of Jungle World, besides the Bonobos and Orangutans?
