Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens News from Thrigby Hall

Doesn't look like the Rusty photos I have from Hamerton, or RARE.

Oncilla?

That's an Indochinese Leopard Cat alright :) so a different subspecies to the one they historically held - the Amur Leopard Cat - and which left the collection a few years ago. Good to see another collection going into the species!

I popped in here for a while today, for the first time.
The male Amur Leopard was in with the female in the morning, but she was high up in a tree keeping her distance. They were separated by early afternoon from what I could see, with hatches closed.
I didn't see any Clouded Leopard; Civet, Wildcat, Golden Cat and Rusty Spotted (I think) in the cloisters were all I saw.
Was there anything in the cage in the far right corner of the lakeside /wildfowl area?

I only walked along the lake path as I was leaving, but didn't go over to the cage; looked like a selection of birds in there, including demoiselle crane and egret I think. Sorry.

I was looking for somewhere to visit on Boxing Day that I haven't been to this year.
Amazed to find that Thrigby is not only open on Boxing Day, but Christmas Day too, 10am -2pm.
I know Edinburgh is always open Christmas Day, but is there another zoo in England open besides Thrigby? Wish I lived a bit nearer, I'd be there!

Wow, that's news to me -I'd always thought Edinburgh was the only UK zoo open on Christmas Day -I've always thought it would be wonderful to build up an appetite walking round a zoo before returning home for Christmas Dinner (preferably with a little frost on the ground for the extra Christmas vibe, though I'm not sure how well that'd interact with Edinburgh's hill).

I too tend to visit somewhere on Boxing Day (partly to blow off the cobwebs of the previous day's indulgences) and have noticed less and less places opening over the last few years (totally understand and appreciate their logic though). Yorkshire Wildlife Park for me this year.

Had our first visit today and despite the weather, saw quite a few animals out and about. Only had a fleeting glimpse of a Leopard cub unfortunately so no photos.

I’ll post up what photos are worth anyone’s time, again only on a camera phone I’m afraid so not great quality.

Does anyone know if Thrigby still have a Golden Cat please?

I am pretty sure that there was one when we went last week in cat cloisters, certainly a sign up and a possible glimpse of one at the back but hopefully someone else can be more confident in confirming this

It's still listed on Zootierliste and on the Park's website so i'd assume so.

Thanks both - I looked on Zootierliste but didn't see any holdings. Clearly I was doing something wrong!

The individual in question is pretty young for his species - he has only recently turned 9, and the previous male held at Thrigby lived to the age of 19 - so I would be surprised if anything has happened to him.

Went on a visit a couple of days ago;

-Amur Leopard cubs are growing nicely, the keeper stated that they could be placed in one of Europe’s release programmes in the future also they are currently extending their enclosure.
-Keepers confirmed their female snow leopard is pregnant and due to give birth at any point in the next week and have separated her from the Male.
-Lar Gibbon baby born about 3 months ago
-Sulawesi Creasted Macaque baby born about 5 months ago
-Female red panda had to be PTS due to cancer

I wonder where it'd go in PWP. They could move the lone white tiger to their sister park or the single cheetah perhaps.
