thrigby news today tiger viewing area being extended and they are looking for another tiger to join the current one..

last years snow lepoard cubh as recently left and on way to banham to join the one there.

the 6 year old amur lepoard cub is going to devon later this year or early next. i asume this to be exmoor to join the one there.

finally apparently the male lepoard from colchester is coming for a little holiday to mate with the female amur lepoard that will be left after the one goes to devon. once the buisness is done its back to colchester

Interesting that an Amur leopard is moving to Devon, I would guess that it will be going to Dartmoor as they are the only holders of the species in Devon.

Arguably one of the better leopard exhibits in the country though.

If you are a leopard of course… as visitor viewing is from afar.
 
Visited today and was quite impressed. For it's size we were there three hours which was longer than I expected. Some notes:
  • Sadly the palm civets were a no show, quite gutting because it was one of the species I wanted to see most.
  • There's two amur leopards now but it's looking like they haven't been introduced to each other yet.
  • Construction is continuing for the new tiger enclosure.
  • Whoever updated zootierliste last didn't do a good job, no idea why the red panda and saltwater crocodiles were listed as former holdings considering they were well signed and very visible...
  • This might have been mentioned up thread but there is only one mugger crocodile left, this is the final individual in the UK and considering how rare the species is in Europe I doubt it will be replaced once it's gone. Anyone know how old it is?
  • There is two empty enclosures in the cat cloisters currently, I imagine one of these used to be for the golden cats? Anyone know if there is plans for new cat species or to extend the current ones?
Overall I had a great visit and I'd definitely recommend going if you happen to be around the Broads, I may end up at another zoo this week but currently unsure.

The 2 Amurs are still mum and daughter
The Mugger is in it’s 60’s
The Clouded Leopard now has access to both enclosures.
Cloisters is next area for redevelopment.
 
Had a great visit here today. Zoo was very busy, which is of course good for the zoo. The Owston's Civets and Red Pandas were the only no shows.

News I haven't seen mentioned - 5 Siamese Crocodiles held in the enclosure between the Forest House and Mugger. They also have a pair of Buff-Cheeked Gibbons. 3 species of gibbons in a row got very loud
 
All 3 were calling at the same time, and facing each other. This went on fkr about 5-10 minutes but the rest of the time they ignored each other
 
I wondered if anyone could provide an update on the works on the new Tiger enclosure / know when it is due to be completed. Many thanks in advance

The enclosure is now open, but the little shelter is still being finished internally. We saw him in both sides of the enclosure today.

Incidentally, does anyone know his name?
 
Went to Thrigby this afternoon as it was on the route back from an early start visiting the Horsey Gap seal colony.

The updated tiger housing looks good.

It was nice to see the Clouded Leopard using both parts of the enclosure where the wildcat used to be, makes for a lot more space. I enjoyed the wander around; as it's fairly compact it doesn't feel like you have neglected loads of it if you only have a short visit. Always makes me reflect I wish more places I visit regularly had more squirrels on show!
