Interesting! They travelled a bit, if they weren't sold to a zoo or breeder over there? Would be interesting to see statistics on how many animals actually escape from zoos.

When I visited in 2018 I saw what was almost certainly a juvenile Malagasy Pond Heron out in the wetland overview.

Same here, I've also seen and photographed one of those wild in the park, by the flamingos (in 2018).

Not a very comforting thought, that the species may be free living on and around the grounds of the park... especially considering how endangered they are and how small the captive population.

Where did you see the Cicinnurus magnificus chrysopterus? I visited the park yesterday and did not see them, not signed either. And they are not reported as seen by anyone on zootierliste.
Visiting in some days again, so I'm curious where they can be seen? :D

I did not see those personally but those species were mentioned to me by a zookeeper from walsrode, I will ask where they are.

EDIT:
I misunderstood, the bird of paradise is not in the visitor area, and therefore not onshow. I'm sorry

I visited Walsrode yesterday, and even though it was quite an exhausting trip for me, it was worth it. I was astonished how much had changed in terms of species since my last visit 2 years ago, and even though there were some cool new species I also missed some I really liked (the rufous hornbills for example). A bit of a shame that Pukara is now missing most of the Psittaciformes that it once had, even those that were new in 2019. I saw the lesser birds of paradise for the first time, and I was really surprised that not only they weren't shy at all, there were also at least five of them on show.

Here is an update with some more new species for this year:
European bee-eater (Merops apiaster)
Tataupa tinamou (Crypturellus tataupa)
Yellow-crowned parakeet (Cyanoramphus auriceps)
Mitchell's lorikeet (Trichoglossus forsteni mitchellii)
Livingstone's turaco (Tauraco livingstonii)
Rosy-billed pochard (Netta peposaca)
Common buzzard (Buteo buteo)
Sulawesi Crested Myna (Basilornis celebensis)
Natterer's Amazons (Amazona ochrocephala nattereri)
Potentially Red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)

Crimson-hooded manakin (Pipra aureola)

The park is closed for the season but I thought that I might post one last update with new species for the park.

Yellowish-streaked lory (Chalcopsitta scintillata)
Madagascar partridge (Margaroperdix madagarensis)
Swift parrot (Lathamus discolor)
Shining honeycreeper (Cyanerpes lucidus)

Altogether this has been a great year for the park with many new species (Several very rare ones as well!). Let's hope that next year will be good as well!

Where exactly do these species come from? Like the ones that aren't kept anywhere else. I'm assuming they come from private breeders but please let me know if you have any idea.
