Weltvogelpark Walsrode news from Walsrode 2022

Now I've finally visited the park for the first time this year!

Here are some more new species (according to information on Zootierliste, ZIMS, and my visit to the park yesterday):

* Mistle thrush (Turdus viscivorus)
* Scarlet-chested parrot (Neophema splendida)
* Western rosella (Platycercus icterotis)
* Varied lorikeet (Psitteuteles versicolor)
* Fire-crowned bishop/Black-winged red bishop (Euplectes hordeaceus)
* Carmine-fronted lory (Chalcopsitta scintillata rubrifrons) - Arrived last year but got put on show this year.
* Northern brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli) - After the last one passed away in 2020, 1,2 arrived last year at the zoo, now they are on show.
*
Cuban amazon (Amazona leucocephala)

Also, these species are back to being on-show right now (they were off-show at the end of last year):
* Scaly-breasted lorikeet (Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus)
* Western long-tailed hornbill (Horizocerus albocristatus albocristatus)

Some other news:
* The Kolibri-Haus/Hummingbird house now only houses hummingbirds again (the manakins and tanagers moved to Pukara).
* There were no species of fig parrots at all on show during my visit yesterday :(
* The Kiwi house is opened again and changed a bit.
* Lots of "upgrades" have been done in the park, for example, they have trimmed and cut down a lot of the trees, bushes and other vegetation a lot, so you can see the animals and enclosures better.
* Several species have been put off-show or is no longer kept, for example, blue dacnis, king eider, Eurasian hoopoe, red-backed shrike, the fig parrots, African grey parrots, goldie lorikeet, red-collared lorikeet, jonquil parrot, barred buttonquails, little owls, and probably more I can't think of right now. I also did not see the rock pratincoles, and they were always visible last year (but they were still signed though).

@Daniel Sörensen - some great photos in your Flickr album - can you tell me what the species is in #6580 and #6587?

I hope they're still there, I'm hoping to see this species on my visit in 2 weeks. How many individuals do they (used to) have?

Also, do you have any insight in how long the JungleTrail will remain closed?

Hello! They are still there, or, at least one! I visited on the 28th as well and I saw one of them in the Paradieshalle :) Only two individuals are known since they got them last year.

I could enter the Jungle Trail on both my visits on the 26th and 28th, so then it was not closed at least. But on my visit on the 28th, I saw that they are renovating a part of Pukara and a tiny part is/was closed off in that building.

Visiting again on Friday the 1st of April.

Interesting, as the Weltvogelpark's website itself mentions the Jungle Trail being closed for renovations.

I really hope Pukara will be fully available on my visit considering the number of rare and cool species they keep in there. Would hate to miss out on any of the trogons (especially the Cuban) or manakins. What enclosures were closed off?

Just two… need more to make a big offspring population.

The mention on their website about the Jungle Trail might have been there since last year. It was on the website then as well, and they actually renovated it a bit last year. So it might be old information.

They are still doing some renovations in Pukara, but not many species are affected by it. Here is a picture of it: Renovations on Pukara - ZooChat.
Three aviaries are affected, but one of the aviaries can still be seen from the side. The other two aviaries house the black-faced tanagers and Socorro dove. They can still be seen through the mesh on the side, but it will be pretty hard to take photos of them at least.

The mention about the Jungle Trail renovation has been removed, so that's one less thing to worry about.
The black-faced tanager is gonna be a new species for me, at least I'll be able to see it even if it is through mesh.

Nice! I visited yesterday again and everything is still open :) Pukara is still under renovations though, but as you said - you can still see the tanagers through the mesh.
I also saw 3(!) rock pratincoles in the same aviary this time. Last year there were only two.

If there are any species you are looking forward to seeing but aren't sure where they are located in the park or "how" to view them (some are pretty scared/shy or only show up at specific times), feel free to message me and I'll guide you to the best I can! :) I also try to update the location of each species on zootierliste, so it's easier for people to find each species, but some might still be outdated. Every species is sadly not signed in the park, so they can be easy to miss!

Also, about the new species for the park. I made a spreadsheet/excel listing all the new species, with a bit more information about them. The spreadsheet will get updated more often, as I only make the posts here on ZooChat when I have at least around 5 new species, to reduce "spam" and to make it easier.

Here is the spreadsheet: WVP Walsrode - New species 2022

Thanks! With help from ZTL and Zoofreunde, I think I got most of the species' locations figured out.
The only thing I'm still not sure about is wether the white-capped manakins (Pseudopipra pipra) are on show or not. A message on the Zoofreunde board mentions the other species all being moved to Pukara (Blue-backed, crimson-hooded, golden-headed and white-bearded) but it says nothing about the White-capped, which is actually one of 2 species I have yet to see (along with crimson-hooded). The white-capped was already in Pukara in 2021, so I'm hoping that's still the case.

That is still the case! The male white-crowned is still on show in the Pukara (as of yesterday). He is located in the first aviary to the left when you enter the "sloth room". Kept together with Wompoo fruit doves, crested partridges, and 1,1 spangled cotinga. He is often sitting in the front of the aviary.
I am also pretty certain that there is a female white-crowned as well but in another aviary, not signed. The female is kept together with Madagascar blue pigeons, paradise tanager, purple honeycreeper, and red-legged honeycreepers.

The crimsons are hard to miss, they are in two of the first aviaries when entering Pukara.

A German news article from march states that the park will have a harpy on show again soon (by June at the latest). In the same article, you can also read that "new species of hummingbirds and various songbirds will also be on display."

It also says that the park is celebrating its 60th birthday this year and that they this summer (if I understood everything correctly) therefore will have a large aviary right by the entrance to the park - where they plan to switch out the species so it's not always the same, and it seems like at least some residents will be birds from the flight show. "A visit to the park starts with a direct experience".

The article also states that the park have more parrots, and gives the examples of Austral parrot and Cuban amazon, which are both on show right now.

Interesting article. You basically got it right, they say the first inhabitants of the new aviary will be participants of the flight show, later they might switch in others. Cool to see that a harpy will come back. I'm just irritated that they mention new hummingbirds will be there when the park opens again, and according to your visits and all other sources, that's not the case.

Yeah, maybe we will get to see them later if there are any new hummingbirds. They also mention the hoopoes, but they aren't on show either.
