Some news from todays visit, not a lot though!

New on show:
- Chestnut-bellied partridge (Arborophila javanica) - In two different aviaries
- Red-legged seriema (Cariama cristata)
- Golden-shouldered parrot (Psephotellus chrysopterygius)

Not new, but got put on show again:
- Yellow-green grosbeak (Caryothraustes canadensis)
- Magpie shrike (Lanius melanoleucus)
- Painted bunting (Passerina ciris)
- Stone partridge (Ptilopachus petrosus)

Yesterday and today I saw 1,1 Black-naped oriole at the second part of the Paradieshalle.

The new Bronze-tail peacock-pheasants are (unsigned) in the second(?) aviary at the Fasanerie with the Eurasian golden orioles.

The orioles are African golden orioles (Oriolus auratus) :)

Do you mean the orioles at the Fasanerie or the orioles at the Paradieshalle are African?
The orioles in the paradieshalle free-flight hall is African. Almost all the species in this hall are now African, except for one Nicobar pigeon which I assume will be catched and moved as soon as possible. Also many of the plants are supposed to be from Africa to bring it all together as an African themed hall :D

Some news for today:
- Cape barren goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae novaehollandiae)
- Wandering whistling duck (Dendrocygna arcuata)
- Little pied cormorant (Microcarbo melanoleucos)
- Chilean burrowing parrot (Cyanoliseus patagonus bloxami)
- Golden-mantled rosella (Platycercus eximius elecica)

The rosella was on show but is right now behind the scenes again, the rest is on show at the moment.

Not much new for todays visit, but two new species on show at least!
- Yellow rosella (Platycercus elegans flaveolus)
- Rufous treepie (Dendrocitta vagabunda)

The rufous treepie is kept in the right aviary in the Rosencafé, and in the left aviary is now the racket-tailed treepie (Crypsirina temia) kept. None signed, yet.

WVP Walsrode also recently received a pair of scaly-naped pigeons (Patagioenas squamosa) from Prague Zoo, but these are currently not on show.

I have a question for people who visit Walsrode regularly or have at least previously visited it and know the place.

I have a visit planned next week and the weather forecast is, to put it mildly, not looking great. I have a hotel already booked so I probably will still end up going. I would just like for something I looked forward to for so long to not end up super disappointing.

What would you recommend to make the best I possibly can of my visit, despite the nasty weather?

Do the outside stuff first or whenever there’s a dry stretch. Spend your time inside the various houses when it rains. Check where your must-see stuff is beforehand so you can go there quick. Don’t waste your time on common stuff like penguins. Take an umbrella ;)

I would've loved to see these treepies as I had my first trip to the park today. However, even on multiple rounds of the park I didn't notice these aviaries by the cafe. Are they easy to miss or am I just blind

I very much enjoyed my trip to the Vogelpark yesterday, I saw pretty much everything I wanted to see aside from the treepies which I missed and the horned guan which seemingly was locked inside all day (?). There were no notable no-shows apart from the a couple of the lories by the Kiwi-house, the Sunda pied hornbill (which I mistook on the signage for a Palawan hornbill and so didn't look too hard for), the honeyeater, and the black-crowned crane. I even saw a few cocks-of-the-rocks jumping to-and-fro on the windowsill, but none of them ever properly left the indoor enclosure.

The collection is unmissable for any European-based bird-lover, combining some of the best features of Berlin, Prague, Plzen, and Köln's bird collections with plenty of additional unique rarities sprinkled throughout. The birds that surprised me the most with their beauty or character, included the Fire-tufted barbet, long-tailed duck, collared imperial-pigeons, fawn-breasted bowerbird, maleos, Inca jays, Yucatan Jays, capuchin birds, red-and-white crake, and, to be honest, so many more. As lover of tinamous, hornbills, fruit-doves, whistling-ducks, guans, curassows, and all things feathered, my appetites have been satiated for at least a couple months

About the guan - the cardinals in the same aviary have babies right now so the horned guan is locked inside at the moment, not sure when it will be let out again. Something to have in mind if anyone planning to visit right now.

I don't have much news from my visit the other day, but here are some changes/news:

• Edwards's fig parrots (Psittaculirostris edwardsii) are now on show again, at the Kiwihouse.
• Common hill myna (Gracula religiosa) is now signed in the "Reich der Mitte" aviary, and we did see one individual inside the building there (not on display yet). This seems to be a new bird.
• The park's old Common hill myna pair has been listed on Zootierliste as subspecies intermedia for several years, but apparently, one of them is actually subspecies religiosa. The new individual is probably a partner for one of them to form a pure subspecies pair.
• Earlier this year, the king bird-of-paradise was kept in two aviaries on show, but now one of those aviaries instead houses the twelve-wired bird-of-paradise, which means they now showcase this species in three different aviaries in the park.
• Wild-type Muscovy ducks are now on display again in two different enclosures.
• The keas were off-show during the first months of this season, but they are now back on show, replacing the palm cockatoo.
• One of the terrariums in Pukara now houses some kind of stick insect. Google Lens says Eurycantha calcarata, but who knows..
• Amazilia hummingbirds are now on display again, sadly replacing the sparkling violetear.
• There are now two species of herons free-flying in the Jungle trail - Celebes Sea nankeen night heron, as already reported, and now also Javan pond herons.
• Several species have naturally brooded babies right now, like for example black-necked swans, pied avocets, white storks, and Siberian cranes.
• The Eurasian griffon vultures in the Uhu-Burg are currently off-show due to a large branch that fell onto the aviary and damaged it.

Also, according to zootierliste they now have a pair bare-eyed pigeons (Patagioenas corensis)

Hi Daniel

I couldn't find either of the pens containing King Bird of Paradise unfortunately, during my short visit. That was a month ago. Where were/are these two pens situated? Sorry, I've asked before, but the only Birds of Paradise I could find were the pens along Fasanerie.

There is an aviary block housing several bird of paradise species in a small corner near the ostrich exhibit.

If you only saw them in the fasanerie you missed the bird-of-paradise area. Just like Kevin said its located close to the ostrich enclosure, and on the map it also mentions the area.

There you can see 4 species of bird-of-paradise.
